Heavy rains, lightning strikes to continue over Odisha

The state of Odisha saw moderate to heavy showers, leading to a significant drop in temperature. These rains have been attributed to a cyclonic circulation is persisting over West Central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal. Due to this system, moisture is increasing over the state.

In the last 24 hours from 8: 30 am on Thursday, Angul recorded three digit rain to the tune of 112.4 mm followed by Puri at 57.4 mm, Balasore 46.6 mm, Bhubaneswar 43.6 mm, Sambalpur 43.2 mm, Bhawanipatna 36 mm and Chandbali 27.3 mm of rains. In fact, these showers over the state were the first good spell this Monsoon season.

As per Skymet Weather, we now expect light to moderate showers in many districts of Odisha. These activities are likely to sustain for the next 24 hours. Places such as Balasore, Angul, Sambalpur, and Keonjhgarh are expected to witness rainfall activity. After 24 hours, the intensity of rains would decrease. However, isolated light rains would continue thereafter as well.

After 24 hours, we expect a marginal rise in the day and night temperatures as well. Though, heatwave like conditions are not expected to make a comeback. Weathermen indicate that rain intensity would once again increase by June 27. Thus, Monsoon would cover more parts of Odisha until then.
