Rain, snow likely tomorrow in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh

December 9, 2015 3:02 PM |

Rain and snow in the offing for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal PradeshSince the past few days, the hills of North India have not been affected by any active weather system. Till now, only feeble Western Disturbances have been over the region, negligibly affecting the hills. The last WD was an active one, but good rain and snow were confined to the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

Presently, a strong Western Disturbance is over Afghanistan and its adjoining areas. Now, this system will shift towards North Pakistan adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. This change in the system will result in widespread rain and snow over areas of Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.

This system will start giving rain and snow over areas including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Shimla, Dharamsala and neighbouring areas. Initially, on December 10, rain and snow will be isolated in nature. However, the spread and the intensity will increase on December 11. Places such as Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Uttarkashi may also receive snowfall during this period.

Due to this system, both day and night temperatures will witness a significant drop. Areas that were experiencing pleasant weather conditions are likely to get cold. Chilly winds will take over. Also, the Western Disturbance is likely to affect the plains of North India as well resulting in patchy rain over some areas.
