Scorching Heatwave Grips Southwest Rajasthan: Relief Unlikely for Now
Apr 28, 2025, 5:42 PM | Skymet Weather TeamSeveral districts across southwest Rajasthan are reeling under an intense heatwave, with no immediate signs of relief. Barmer continued to sizzle with a maximum temperature of 46.3°C, followed closely by Jaisalmer at 45.7°C, Phalodi at 44.6°C, and Jodhpur at 43.8°C. The unrelenting heat is primarily due to the inflow of dry, extremely hot winds originating from the southern parts of Sindh province in Pakistan. These west-southwesterly winds are sweeping across the already parched landscapes of the Thar Desert, worsening the heat.
The southern Sindh region itself remains under severe heat conditions, with Nawabshah touching a scorching 48.2°C, Pad Idan at 46.7°C, Sibi at 46.6°C, and Chhor recording 45.3°C. Meteorologists suggest that these extreme temperatures are likely to persist over southwest Rajasthan for the next two to three days.
A slight respite may be on the horizon, however. Forecasters expect a shift in wind patterns, with cooler southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea set to replace the current hot, dry flows. Once the winds change direction, temperatures are likely to ease slightly, bringing some long-awaited relief to the region's residents.
