Another round of sizzling heat has caught up large parts of Gujarat and West Rajasthan. Border areas of Rajasthan and interiors of Gujarat have recorded the highest temperatures of this season. Some pockets have been blistering with temperatures in excess of 46°C for the first time this season. The highest temperature of 46.4°C for the country was recorded at Barmer. Extreme heat is likely over these parts for the next about 3 days or so, and some relief thereafter.

Across the border, arid regions of Pakistan have once again been swept by hot, dusty, and gusty winds. The temperature at places like Nawabshah breached the 47°C mark. Most locations in Central Pakistan and the Sind regions are witnessing ‘loo’ conditions. With favourable winds, the heat is getting transported to parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

In Gujarat, many locations have registered the highest temperatures of the season. The prominent places are Ahmedabad (44°C), Rajkot (46.2°C), Amreli (44.1°C), Surendranagar (44.8°C), and Bhavnagar (42.2°C). All these temperatures are above normal by 3°–5°C. Rajkot has recorded the highest temperature of this season for the state of Gujarat. The neighbouring state of Rajasthan also has similar conditions. The western parts of the state, and more so, the border posts, have registered excruciating temperatures across the board. Some of the locations have recorded the highest temperatures of this season: Barmer-46.4°C, Jaisalmer-46.2°C, Phalodi-45.2°C, and Jodhpur-44.4°C. Some places far away from the border have also recorded searing temperatures, like Kota (44.6°C) and Chittorgarh (44.4°C).

Pockets of Rajasthan may have some dust storms and strong winds commencing May 1st. Most parts of the state will witness typical pre-monsoon activity between 01st and 07th May. The spread and intensity of rain, thundershowers, dust storms, and strong winds will be more between 04th and 06th May. The state of Gujarat will have extended heat wave conditions till 03rd May. The state, as such, will have only isolated weather activity between 06th and 08th May 2025. However, oppressive heat will ease out for most parts of the state after 03 May because of extensive weather activity over the contiguous parts of Rajasthan.
