Rain in Gujarat

Active Monsoon has been giving heavy rains in parts of Gujarat since the past two days. In a span of 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Monday, Vadodara has recorded extremely heavy rain to the tune of 92 mm, while Surat observed 69 mm of rain. Moderate intensity rain was also witnessed in many other parts of the state.

Meteorologists at Skymet have predicted more rains for the state of Gujarat during the coming days. Although the intensity would comparatively remain less to the past few days, moderate to heavy rains with one or two very heavy spells would continue, particularly in the southern districts.

Places like Surat, Valsad, Navsari, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Porbandar, Veraval would observe good rain and thundershower activities. While light to moderate rains would be a sight over Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Mehsana for another 24 hours.

By tomorrow, rains may taper over the region to some extent and continue with light to moderate in intensity only.

Further, September 12 onward, there would be a significant drop in the rainfall activities and only light showers are expected thereafter. We can say that relief would be seen from the ongoing heavy rains in the state.

This reduction in rainfall activities can be attributed to the movement and subsequent weakening of Cyclonic Circulation towards the West. Moreover, the wind shear zone that was over South Gujarat has also shifted to the central parts of the state.
