After keeping lull for some time, even during the peak season activity, the Atlantic Ocean has become an active basin, churning hurricanes in succession, posing a potential threat for the East Coast of the US. Hurricane Gabrielle has veered away from the East Coast of the US and is now heading for Europe, more specifically for the UK. Close on its heels, tropical storm Humberto has formed from the pre-existing invest area in the Western Atlantic. It is likely to strengthen into a hurricane in the next 48 hours. A second potential hurricane is also swirling nearby.

It is too early to forecast their exact path, but early signals suggest the disturbances could track towards the East Coast of the US. Humberto is likely to keep a safe distance from the Caribbean countries. The storm is not expected to directly impact the US mainland, but large swells and strong rip currents could affect the East Coast this week. Bermuda is likely to be closer to the path of the storm, with rather heavy downpours and strong surface winds expected. Storm Humberto is likely to reach hurricane strength this weekend.
