Cotton prices have shot up by over 35% since May 2016 following a fall in domestic production and on reports of lower sowing acreages for the Kharif 2016. By midjuly, 75.41 lakh hectares of sowing had taken place as compared to 93.22 lakh hectares last year. Cotton prices are unlikely to come down sharply till the fresh arrival from October onwards.
