Bangladesh has been witnessing heavy rain and thundershowers during the last few days. All thanks to the well-marked low-pressure area that has strengthened into a deep depression now. Due to this, Madaripur district in Bangladesh has managed to record a three-digit rainfall figure. On the other hand, other districts of the country have been observing light to moderate rains.

Within the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Madaripur recorded heavy rainfall of 113 mm, followed by Mongla 78.3 mm, Satkhira 76.2 mm, Patuakhali 71.5 mm, Farodpur 32 mm, Cos x Bazar 18 mm, Jessore and Chuadanga 9 mm, Maijdicourt 7 mm, Kutubdia 6.1 mm, Sitakundu and Rangamati 5 mm, Tangail 4 mm and Comilla and Dhaka 1 mm.

The reason for such heavy rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to a deep depression which is seen over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas.

Due to this weather system, warm and moist winds are continuously blowing and affecting the entire country. With this, moderate rain and thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds are likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, and Rajshahi divisions. Whereas, many places over Rangpur, Mymensingh & Sylhet divisions will witness heavy to very heavy rains during the next two to three days.
