Northern Ireland and Scotland brace for gusty winds and rain this weekend

Stormy weather will continue through the week and yet another storm system will target Northern Ireland and Scotland this weekend. This storm system will cross just north of British Isles on Thursday night into Friday. This will cause strong winds and rainy spells over UK.

Unlike the previous storm that brought widespread rain and strong winds to South West England, this storm will impact northern portions of UK. The areas where major impacts can be felt are northwest Ireland and northwest Scotland. The wind gusts will be the strongest along the northwestern and western coast. Wind gusts of upto 95 kmph are expected in the inland and gusts exceeding 120 kmph is expected along the coastline. This storm system will move into Northern Ireland and the Western Isles and Highlands of Scotland by Thursday afternoon into Friday morning.

For majority of the duration southern portions of England would escape the fury of the storm but, it could still be very breezy. The heaviest rain could be to the north with areas like Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and Northwestern England receiving bulk of the rainfall. However, rainfall totals will be less than 25 mm.

Since southern England will escape the storm, the temperatures will be well above normal for this time of the year.

While this storm system will move out by Friday, close on its heels will be another spell of rain during the weekend. Rainfall will increase for Southern England and Wales on Friday night into Saturday. This will continue on Sunday as well.
