Rainfall activity over Bangladesh to reduce significantly

November 6, 2016 2:00 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Bangladesh received heavy to extremely heavy rain in many places particularly southern and eastern parts of the country. The depression was seen about 180kms south southeast of Khepupara at 0530 hours today morning. Earlier due to this weather system Gangetic West Bengal and Coastal Odisha received good rain due to this weather system.

Fortunately this depression did not intensify into a cyclone due to increased vertical wind shear in the North Bay of Bengal, otherwise Bangladesh could have affected by strong surge and very strong winds. In that scenario damage to life and property may have happened.

But thankfully this depression is moving away further eastwards and is most likely to weaken into a well-marked low pressure system and then further into a low pressure system.

During the last 24 hours, places like Sandwip has received 186 mm of rainfall, Comilla has received 134 mm of rainfall, Srimangal 122 mm, Kutubdia 82 mm, Patuakhali 90 mm, Feni 96 mm, Rangamati 73 mm, Sylhet 57 mm and Madaripur has received 35 mm of rainfall.

Now rains over Bangladesh will reduce significantly, but parts of northeast India will continue with rains for the next 24 hours.
