Mangkhut weakens into a tropical storm, further weakening likely

Updated on Sep 17, 2018: Typhoon Mangkhut has been the strongest storm in the year 2018 and has wreaked enough over the region. Both the Pacific as well as the Atlantic Ocean have seen severe storms this time, with Mangkhut on one side and Florence on the other.

Talking about the Pacific, it sees about 20 storms in a season with almost 50 percent converting into typhoons. However, not all of these typhoons become a Cat 5 Typhoon. Moreover, Cat 5 Typhoons in the sea becomes a possibility, but the storms do not stay as that for a long time.

Typhoon Mangkhut has been one storm which has had a very long sea travel and kept on gaining strength despite landfalls.

Mangkhut first battered Guam and Marshall Islands and caused damage. Thereafter, the storm once again gained strength wreaking havoc over Philippines and Hong Kong along with parts of China.

The swath of Mankghut was large, of about 800 km. Hong Kong has been affected by a storm after a really long time.

Now, the system has weakened into a storm and further may become a depression. The remnants of this system will cross over to Myamnar and may emerge in the Bay of Bengal affecting the weather over India.

Published on Sep 16, 2018: After battering Philippines with hefty rains and destruction, Typhoon Mangkhut has battered China as well. Typhoon Mangkhut has lashed South China packing winds of 162 kmph. The Guangdong region is on high alert. Guangdong has also cancelled all flights from 12:00 PM on Sunday to 8:00 am on Monday.

Not only this, all classes in schools have been cancelled by the Guangdong provincial department of education on Monday.

Heavy rainfall has already wreaked havoc leaving streets left many streets in coastal cities of Guangdong flooded, blowing away several trees as well as billboards. Typhoon Mangkhut is considered to be the strongest storm in the year 2018.

Death toll in the Philippines has risen to a whopping 49, most of these people died due to the landslides which occurred in view of heavy rains over the region.

The storm also caused much chaos in Hong Kong wherein on Sunday morning local time, a T10 storm signal. Not only thus, the city remained entirely shut down. Windows have been smashed, trees have been downed and roofs have been torn in Hongkong as the eye of the storm passed through the south of the territory packing winds gusting up to 223 kmph.
