Typhoon Noul brewing in the Western Pacific

A tropical storm Noul is set to become a typhoon during this week in the western pacific region. Before this happens the tropical storm is to pass close to Yap as a strong tropical storm gathering strength on Monday night.

Just about a month ago Yap was struck by typhoon Maysak, which brought tremendous damage to the Island country. Tropical storm Noul will not be as severe as Typhoon Maysak but will still pack a punch with wind gusts of over 110 kmph and heavy downpour of around 150 mm. This could hamper the rehabilitation efforts going on.

After crossing Yap islands the tropical storm Noul will gain strength and is expected to become a powerful typhoon. Noul could become a category 4 typhoon by the middle of this week. The typhoon will be moving towards the Philippines Sea. Though the track of the typhoon is still uncertain, the timing of the curve to the north-northeast will determine the impact it would have on Philippines.

There is threat of rain and strong winds over the northern island of Luzon during the weekend. However, there are chances that the worst part of the storm will pass just east of Luzon. Then again it is to be noted that this path of the typhoon is not known and there could be changes in the coming days. At the moment people in North Philippines are the one who should continue to monitor the Typhoon.

Typhoon formation in the region is usual for this time of the year. This typhoon might not have a bearing on the monsoon current as it is too early in May. Typhoons during mid to end May do have some effect on the monsoon currents as they absorb lots of moisture.
