Light Rain to Play Spoiler at SurajKund Mela Tomorrow

The 29th SurajKund International Crafts Mela, 2015 has begun today at SurajKund, Faridabad. Visitors can expect some precipitation during late afternoon tomorrow and on February 3. People who are planning a trip to the mela on the aforementioned days are advised to carry umbrellas to save themselves from the rain. This time, visitors will be able to experience a joy ride in a helicopter and enjoy an aerial view of the mela along with the surrounding areas.

The 29th SurajKund International Crafts Mela is all set to begin on February 1 at Surajkund, Faridabad. The fifteen days long festival will exhibit Chhattisgarh as the theme state this year. The mela will showcase the rich and diverse handicrafts, handlooms as well as the cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh. However, rain may dampen the festive spirit.

A Western Disturbance on February 2nd, 3rd and 4th is expected to cause rain in the national capital and the adjoining areas. Also, the area may receive rain on February 8, 9, 10 and 11 due to another Western Disturbance. Therefore, people are advised to not plan their trip to the mela on the aforementioned dates.

However, other days are expected to be bright and sunny. The day temperature during the first week will hover around 22 - 23°C and the night temperature will remain in single digit between 7°C and 8°C. The weather will significantly improve in the second week when the day temperature will increase to around 22 - 23°C, the night temperature will also increase to double digits between 11 and 12°C.

The grounds of the Mela will be divided into five zones. These zones will be themed around the five seasons that occur in India i.e. Spring, Summer, Monsoon, Autumn as well as Winter. The mela will be jointly held by the Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism Corporation in collaboration with the Union Ministries of Tourism, Textiles, Culture and External Affairs. More than a million foreign and domestic visitors are expected in the 15 day mela.
