Delhi Maximum Temperature Trend (Estimated Projection) – Skymet
The month of May is synonymous with extreme heat for Delhi. Invariably, the mercury crosses 43°C by the middle of the month. Last year was the hottest in the last two decades, as the mercury climbed to 46.8°C on 30th May 2024.
An all-time high of 47.2°C was recorded on 29th May 1944. In the recent past, the month of May 2021 was an outlier when the highest temperature of 41.6°C was recorded in the early days of the month on 05th May 2021. Quite abnormally, the whole month had only three days when the temperature exceeded the 40°C mark. The other two days were the 27th & 28thMay with maximum temperatures of 41.2°C and 40.1°C, respectively.
The current month of May seems to have a semblance to this month, wherein the temperatures continue to be subdued.
There is no significant feature in the close proximity of Delhi that causes any noteworthy weather activity. Yet, heat-triggered localized buildup up of tall clouds may cause brief and mild thunderstorms accompanied by strong surface winds. This situation will hold for the next 4-5 days. Chances of having a thunderstorm or dust storm grow bigger on 16th and 17th May 2025. Moderately strong northwesterly winds, mostly dry in nature, will keep the humidity levels down. Therefore, winds and heat may give the feel of ‘loo,’ more so from mid-week onwards.
