Delhi/NCR has recorded mostly below-normal day and night temperatures so far in October. Base station Safdarjung has registered a minimum temperature below 20°C for the fifth consecutive day. The lowest minimum so far, 18.8°C, was recorded on 10th October 2025. With clear skies and a light breeze, day temperatures have shown a rising trend and moved up from below 30°C to the low 30s in the past week. Still, the mercury level remains marginally below normal.

For the capital city, the minimum temperature starts at about 22°C in October and reaches 19°C by the middle of the month. The mean minimum temperature for the first two weeks stands at 21.4°C, marginally below the seasonal average of about 22°C. The minimum temperature is expected to stay around 20°C or less for the next few days. These are likely to drop by 5°–6°C in the second half of the month and may plunge below 15°C towards the end of the month.

October Rainfall (mm) :  Safdarjung-Delhi

No more rainfall is likely in October, but the city has already recorded 90 mm of rainfall during the first week of the month. This happens to be the third-highest monthly rainfall in the last 15 years. Earlier, the Safdarjung observatory had recorded 122.5 mm and 128.6 mm of rainfall in October 2021 and 2022, respectively. Last year, the capital city did not record any rainfall in October.

Delhi/NCR is expected to have pleasantly warm days and a typical mild winter chill during the night and early morning hours. The mountains of North India are not likely to receive any significant spell of snowfall over the next 10 days or more. Therefore, any sharp drop in mercury levels is unlikely. Going by the seasonal progression, there will be a noticeable chill in the air during the last week of October. The hallmark winter ‘cool’ may arrive slightly earlier than normal this season.
