Most parts of Delhi/NCR witnessed very light rainfall for the third consecutive day. The base station at Safdarjung observed a hat trick of dry days. Even the Meteorological Office at Lodhi Road recorded only traces of rainfall during this period. Some other observatories like Jafarpur, Delhi University, and Narela had measurable but very light rainfall. Only the Pusa observatory recorded moderate rainfall.
The main station Safdarjung has recorded a total of 128.8 mm rainfall so far this month, against the July normal of 195.8 mm. Mostly light rainfall and a few intermittent moderate showers are expected during this week. An uptick in the weather activity is likely next week, with a chance to catch up with the monthly normal. The airport observatory at Palam has registered a total of 229.6 mm of rainfall so far and has far exceeded its monthly quota of 188.7 mm.
The monsoon trough is passing through Delhi on the surface and lower levels up to 3,000 feet height. Thereafter, it has shifted north of Delhi, but not very far. This status will be maintained for the next about four days, with a change thereafter. The proximity of the trough line will give light to moderate rain and thundershowers today and tomorrow. Parts of Delhi/NCR are already witnessing rain and thunderstorms, which are likely to continue in the forenoon and early afternoon today. A repeat action is likely tomorrow as well. The subsequent two days will find very scanty weather activity on 24th and 25th July 2025.
There is a likelihood of a low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal on 24th July. The inland movement of this system across eastern and central parts will drag the monsoon trough southward. The oscillation of the western end of the monsoon trough will commence on 26th July 2025, and this feature will stay south of Delhi between 28th and 31st July 2025. Rainfall activity will increase from 26th July onwards. The weekend, on 26th and 27th, will witness decent monsoon showers. More intense activity with broader spread is likely right at the start of next week and will keep rolling in the remaining days of this month.
