Rainy Days Ahead For Delhi: Heavy Showers On Monday
Post withdrawal of the monsoon from Delhi, rains are still continuing even a week later. Monsoon retreated from the capital city on 24 September 2025, a day earlier than normal, but the rains continue to lash off and on. The city observatory Safdarjung had earlier recorded 38 mm rainfall on 1 October and another 14 mm has been added this morning. Moderate rain and thundershowers lashed most parts of Delhi yesterday evening. Delhi has an average of 14.1 mm rainfall in October. The month of October, as such, is a benign period with the least rainfall activity. Generally, it rains when the monsoon withdrawal is delayed, like it happened last year, on 2 October. Delhi has accumulated a total of 52 mm rainfall so far in the first week of October itself. More showers are likely in the days ahead.
There is a low-level cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and the adjoining area. An active western disturbance is approaching, and another cyclonic circulation will come up over the Central Pakistan region tomorrow. This feature will move across the border and the pre-existing circulation will merge with the system. Additionally, there are two more strong monsoon systems over and in the vicinity of the Indian region. A deep depression has crossed the Odisha coast and is now marked as a depression over the interior parts of the state and Jharkhand. It will move northwest for another 24 hours and infuse moisture from the Bay of Bengal. Another system, a deep depression, is marked over the Arabian Sea in proximity to the Saurashtra & Kutch coast. This system is also pumping moist winds over the Rajasthan and Delhi region. The cyclonic circulation over the Rajasthan region will interact with both currents, from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
Under the combined influence of these three systems, an east–west trough will extend from North Rajasthan to southwest Uttar Pradesh, running across south Haryana and the Delhi region. Tomorrow, there is a chance of very light rainfall for the Delhi region. However, intensity and spread will increase between 5 and 7 October, and the peak is likely on 6 October. Heavy and widespread rainfall is expected on Monday, 6 October. The rainy spell will be accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. A broad clearance is expected from 8 October onward for the city and suburbs.
