Light Rains For Delhi During This Week: Mid-Week May Remain Dry
Delhi has not witnessed any significant rainfall for the last four days. The base station, Safdarjung, has recorded zero rainfall in the last three days. Most other observatories have also not registered any measurable rainfall over the last two days. Similar conditions are likely during the week, wherein either very light rain or no rain is expected. At best, absolute patchy and fleeting showers for minimal duration may occur in some areas.
The main trigger for the monsoon showers is the seasonal monsoon trough for Delhi. Courtesy of a deep depression over South Pakistan on the western end and a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast on the eastern side, the monsoon trough connecting the two is running well south of its normal position. The depression will move away westward and weaken as well in the next 48 hours. With this, the western end of the monsoon trough will shift northward and come closer to Delhi on 11th and 12th September. However, it will still be a little distance away and therefore may not cause any significant activity.
In the absence of any noticeable weather activity, the temperature is likely to remain in the mid-30s. The combination of heat and humidity will lead to sultry and muggy conditions over this week. Relief, if any, will be meagre and inadequate to raise the comfort level. The approaching weekend may sound better with chances of thunderstorms and showers, balancing out the excess heat. More of these showers are expected only next week.
