Delhi Mercury May Rise, Showers Unlikely Today, Light Rain During The Week
Delhi weather cleared up after yesterday’s rainy spell in the morning. A fair amount of sunshine later helped temperatures rise to the mid-30s. The monsoon trough was in close proximity to the capital city and was expected to bring some relief showers today as well. However, the western end of the trough in the lower levels has shifted slightly farther north, seemingly at a safe distance to trigger any more showers today. Overall clearance in the weather conditions may result in a rise in temperature. The mercury rise, coupled with increased humidity levels, will make the weather conditions muggy, more so in the afternoon hours.
There is a cyclonic circulation likely to develop over North Punjab and adjoining areas of Pakistan in the lower levels. Also, there is another cyclonic circulation associated with the low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal. This feature will move westward to Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh over the next two days. It will drag along the cyclonic circulation and persist over parts of Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh. The trough line connecting these two circulations will set off rain and thundershowers along its stretch. This weather system will oscillate, keeping close proximity to Delhi.
Delhi will have a ‘touch and go’ situation tomorrow, and there is a chance of some stray showers in some areas. The day after looks a little more promising for scattered showers spread across most parts of NCR. By this time, the circulation of the low-pressure area will shift to parts of Northwest Madhya Pradesh and drag the trough line south of Delhi. The crossing of the trough line through any location, irrespective of north or south, remains favourable for light to moderate showers. Light to moderate showers are expected over Delhi and its suburbs between 11th and 16th July. Any intense activity resulting in trouble for the common man may not be there. Persistent rain and showers will keep the temperature under check and restrict it to under 35°C during this period.
