After a stormy and wet end to May and a pleasant start to June, Northwest India is set to witness a major shift in weather conditions beginning June 6th. The recent spell of pre-monsoon rain and thunderstorm activity brought much-needed relief to the region, covering states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. However, this wet phase is nearing its end.

Scattered rain and thunderstorm activity—some accompanied by hail—may continue in parts of the region for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, weather conditions will begin to change significantly.

From June 6th onward, dry northwesterly winds are expected to dominate the region. These winds will push away remaining moisture, leading to a sharp drop in humidity levels. As a result, the skies will clear up and bright sunshine will prevail across most of Northwest and parts of Central India.

The combination of dry weather, clear skies, and strong sunshine is expected to cause a gradual rise in daytime temperatures. Day temperatures, which had dipped due to persistent cloud cover and rain, will once again inch towards the 40°C mark, particularly over Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi.

This dry spell is expected to persist until around June 11th. Around that time, light to moderate rain activity is forecast to return-starting with parts of Uttarakhand and East Uttar Pradesh. By June 13th, the rain belt may gradually expand westward to cover larger areas of Northwest India.

This transition will be marked by a change in wind patterns. Winds will begin blowing from the east, indicating the advance of the eastern arm of the Southwest Monsoon into the Indo-Gangetic plains.

In summary, residents of Northwest India should brace for a hot and dry phase starting June 6th, with a possible respite in the form of fresh pre-monsoon or early monsoon showers expected from June 11th onward.
