Gujarat Unseasonal Weather To Stop By Weekend: Return Of Heat Wave Unlikely
May 8, 2025, 3:06 PM | Skymet Weather TeamThe complete state of Gujarat has witnessed unseasonal weather activity for the last three days. The intensity and spread were large on 06th and 07th May. Frequent clouding, strong winds, and intermittent showers not only doused the persistent heat but also plunged the mercury to unprecedented levels, rarely observed at this time of the year. Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Baroda have slumped to 26°–27°C, a massive 14°–15°C below the normal. Following partial clearance of weather, these temperatures are likely to rise but still remain appreciably below normal for the next three days.
There is a cyclonic circulation in the lower levels over South Rajasthan with a trough extending eastward. Also, there is another cyclonic circulation over the Northeast Arabian Sea with a trough extending up to Madhya Pradesh, cutting across the Gujarat region. Under the combined influence of these systems, moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over the state for the next three days. The weather activity will be more intense over Central and North Gujarat, covering Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Deesa, Palanpur, and Mehsana districts. Coastal and interior Saurashtra will witness moderate showers, a little more intense than the rest of the region. The locations favored for such an activity will include Bhavnagar, Mahuva, Diu, Somnath, Veraval, Porbandar, Okha, Dwarka, Jamnagar, Rajkot, and Morbi.
Weather activity will start depleting from 10th May onward for the subsequent 48 hours. On 11th and 12th May, the rainfall activity will be very light and limited, but the temperatures will remain suppressed. A broad clearance in the weather conditions is likely from 13th May onwards and will stay good for the next one week. However, the wind flow will keep streaming from the Arabian Sea and thereby checking any abrupt rise in the temperatures. So, even after the cessation of weather activity, the temperatures are unlikely to spike to their normal range till 20th May 2025.
