A low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Arabian Sea, off the South Konkan and Goa coast. The system is likely to strengthen into a depression in the next 24 hours, keeping proximity to the Konkan Coastline. Positioning and movement of the system remain uncertain, but surely, it will keep contiguity to the financial capital, Mumbai, over the next three days.
Heavy rains are likely over the city and suburbs for the next three days. The rains will be more intense in the southern divisions of the city, like Colaba, Parel, Dadar, Malabar Hills, Parel, Mahim, Bandra, and Mumbai Central.
Factually, the southern half of the Konkan Coast, from Sindhudurg to Raigad, across Ratnagiri, will have vicious rains. The northern parts, like Thane, Kalyan, Palghar, and Navi Mumbai, will be in a shade better position to start with. However, these pockets also will catch up later on.
The rains could be heavier to disrupt the normal life. Commuters may take a direct hit. Both rail and road services are likely to be impacted. Air operations will also be affected. The delays, diversions, and cancellations need to be catered to during this period. The weather activity is expected to be stronger in the evening, night, and early morning hours. These showers will be a part of the pre-monsoon activity. It will facilitate the early arrival of the monsoon over the city and suburbs.
