Light Rain Likely For Delhi Today-Tomorrow, All Clear Signal By Mid-Week Next
May 9, 2025, 12:59 PM | Skymet Weather TeamClouds have been hanging around Delhi for the last one week or so. The proximity of the trough did raise the chance of a dust storm and thunderstorm on a few occasions. However, the base station Safdarjung (check weather) has recorded light rainfall only once during the last one week.
Similar scene with the airport observatory, Palam. Conditions did look favourable for a fair amount of weather, but significant pre-monsoon activity has given miss. The observatory recorded light rainfall on two occasions during the last seven days.
The buildup around the surroundings of the airport did amount to a thunderstorm-dust storm warning, but the clouds passed away without significant impact. Yes, the day temperatures remained checked and have yet to reach the 40°C mark in May 2025.
Meteorological features continue to favour short spells of fleeting showers for the next two days over Delhi/NCR. There is no forceful weather activity expected over and around Delhi within a radius of 100 km, but a buildup of tall clouds remains a possibility. Vertical clouds, indicative of atmospheric instability, will come up today also, more so a little south of Delhi. However, these may get diffused quickly, sometimes late in the afternoon and early evening.
A cyclonic circulation is marked over Northeast Rajasthan, Northwest Madhya Pradesh, and the Delhi region in the lower levels. Winds are mostly light around the circulation. An east-west trough continues to remain in position, a little south of Delhi, as in the last few days. This trough is the main trigger for the development of clouds, but not strong enough to raise the bar of activity for Delhi.
Patchy rain and showers are likely for brief durations, more so over the southern half of the Delhi region. The mercury is unlikely to shoot anywhere near 40°C. At best, the day temperature is expected to be around 36°C today. As the trough shifts slightly north of Delhi tomorrow, while conditions remain favourable for short-duration passing showers, temperatures may rise about a degree or two over the next 3 days. Yet, the mercury will remain below normal and under 40°C for one more week ahead. Broad clearance of weather activity is expected after mid-week next.
