A cyclonic circulation is marked up to mid-tropospheric levels over the northwest and northern parts of the Bay of Bengal (BoB). Under the influence of this, a low-pressure area is likely to form over Northwest and adjoining West-Central BoB.

The sea conditions being favorable, it is expected to become more marked in the subsequent 24 hours. With the likely westward movement of the system, the southwest monsoon may advance further over the northeastern region and some parts of West Bengal and adjoining areas.

The likely low pressure over BoB may not travel deep over land. The advance of the monsoon may get restricted up to Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Further progress of the monsoon to parts of Bihar and Jharkhand may have to wait for the fresh surge.

The cyclonic circulation of low pressure will generate a convergence zone along the coast of Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This weather active zone will take the pre-monsoon activity to parts of Odisha, South Chhattisgarh, and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Parts of Bihar and Jharkhand will have isolated rain and thunderstorms, typical of pre-monsoon patterns.

The low-pressure area will stay in the proximity of the coast and partially inland for about 2 days. Later, its circulation will shift northeastward over Bangladesh and Assam & Meghalaya. Severe weather activity is expected over the northeastern region between 29th May and 01st June. Thereafter, it will start shrinking in space and intensity. The southwest monsoon is unlikely to push beyond some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. The eastern states of the country, like Bihar and Jharkhand, may have to wait for the renewed pulse to take the monsoon further.
