Delhi recorded light and isolated rainfall during the morning hours today. Both Palam and Safdarjung reported trace rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity. The highest rainfall was recorded at Ayanagar, which received 23.6 mm. Other stations also logged light rainfall, including Najafgarh (0.5 mm) and Salwan School (6.0 mm). Peripheral areas such as Gurugram and Noida also witnessed light showers during the morning hours.

The rainfall has ceased since the early forenoon hours, but showers are likely to return during the afternoon and evening. Weather activity may continue during the late-night hours as well.

The monsoon trough remains the primary trigger for the ongoing weather activity. As anticipated, the trough is currently passing through Delhi and is in the process of shifting north of the city. At present, it extends from Anupgarh, Hisar, Delhi, Etawah, Lucknow and further eastward towards Manipur.

In addition, a Western Disturbance persists over the northern mountains in the form of an upper-air system. This system will help keep the monsoon trough active and close to Delhi over the next three days, from August 4 to August 6, 2026.

An in-situ cyclonic circulation over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and Southwest Uttar Pradesh in the lower levels will cause the monsoon trough to shift south of Delhi on August 7 and 8. However, the trough is expected to return to its favourable position over the region on August 9 and 10.

Weather activity over Delhi will continue to depend on the position of the monsoon trough relative to the capital. Monsoon showers are expected between August 4 and August 6, with the likelihood of heavier rainfall on August 5. Rainfall activity is expected to become lighter and more isolated on August 7 and 8 before increasing once again on Sunday and Monday, bringing intermittent showers to many parts of the city.
