Delhi observed dry weather conditions for the second consecutive day. Absence of clouds and milder winds resulted in a rise in the day temperature. Base station Safdarjung recorded a high of 36.4°C, a rise of 2°C from the previous day, yet below normal by the same margin. The mercury is unlikely to rise beyond 36°C in the next one week and may rather dip by about 2°C at the start of next week. The minimum temperature is likely to stay around 25°C.

There are two cyclonic circulations influencing and controlling weather conditions over the capital city. One low-level circulation is marked over West Rajasthan, and the other one over Jharkhand, in association with a low pressure over that area. The east-west trough joining the two is passing south of Delhi, but quite close. With the movement of these two features, the trough is likely to shift northward, albeit slowly, and run north of Delhi by tomorrow. It will further shift to the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand a day later, on Sunday. Oscillation of the trough triggers rain and thundershowers at any place, and so is likely for Delhi as well.

Weather activity is likely to remain light and at best moderate today and tomorrow. Over the next two days, the circulation over Jharkhand will move westward and get placed over Southwest Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring North Madhya Pradesh. The peripherals of this system will run through keeping close proximity to Delhi on Sunday and Monday. This situation will offer a good chance to have thunderstorm activity on these two days.

The spell of rain may be accompanied by lightning, thunder, strong winds, and an outside chance of a hailstorm. The weather activity will be more intense in the evening and night on Sunday.

The spillover effect will be there on the next day, on 23rd June. This spell of weather activity, spread over two days, on 22nd and 23rd June, is likely to become consequential for ushering monsoon over Delhi/NCR. The normal date of arrival for monsoon over Delhi is 27th June. Last year, the monsoon reached the capital on 28th June. In 2023, it hit the region on 26th June. The years before that saw the monsoon arriving on June 30 (2022), July 13 (2021), and 25th June (2020).
