Key Takeaways:

  • Delhi/NCR received widespread light rainfall with temperatures dropping noticeably.
  • Maximum temperature fell to 39.2°C, while minimum hovered near 20°C.
  • Rain, thundershowers and dust storm likely between 02nd and 06th May.
  • Heat wave conditions unlikely over Delhi/NCR for the next week.

As on expected lines, Delhi/NCR received fairly widespread light rainfall, more significantly in the late night and early morning hours. Persistent clouding yesterday reduced the maximum temperature to 39.2°C, a drop of about 3°C from the previous day. All observatories in NCR recorded rainfall amounts between 1 mm and 5 mm. The minimum temperatures dipped appreciably today morning and hovered around 20°C, below normal by 3°-5°C. Earlier, the capital city had recorded the warmest night with minimum temperature rising to 28.4°C, yesterday morning. Day temperatures will continue to remain under 40°C during the week. Heat wave conditions are unlikely over the next one week.

A western disturbance moving across North India is associated with cyclonic circulation marked over South Punjab, North Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan region. Another low-level cyclonic circulation is lying over Southwest Uttar Pradesh. An east-west trough joining these two circulations is extending further across Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. This trough is running in close proximity of Delhi. North-South oscillation of this trough will keep triggering pre-monsoon showers over Delhi/NCR for the next 5-6 days, with a possible break in between, on 01st May 2026.

Rain and thundershowers are likely today and tomorrow over and around the capital city. With northward shift of trough on 01st May, the city may get a breather from the pre-monsoon convective activity on 01st May. However, the trough will slide back, yet again, and run in the close vicinity of Delhi. Also, during this period, a fresh western disturbance will arrive over the mountains on 02nd May 2026. Weather activity will get revived and another round of rain, thundershowers, dust storm, occasionally accompanied with strong winds, is likely between 02nd and 06th May 2026. The intensity and spread of weather activity will be more on 04th and 05th May 2026. Heat wave conditions will continue to remain in abeyance during this period. Month of May will start on a pleasant rainy note.
