Rainy Days Ahead For Delhi, Showers To Extend Beyond Weekend
May 7, 2025, 12:46 PM | Skymet Weather TeamDelhi remained rain-free in the past 24 hours. None of the observatories in Delhi/NCR recorded any rainfall. Even contiguous parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh remained silent. The nearest murmur of rain was confined to the foothills of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Dehradun and Sundernagar had moderate showers in the evening and night.
Base station Safdarjung recorded a day temperature of 36°C, about 3°C below the normal. Airport Palam was further better at 34.5°C, nearly 6°C below the average. The minimum temperature was also marginally below the normal.
There has not been much change in the meteorological conditions around the Delhi region. The cyclonic circulation, earlier marked over Northeast Rajasthan, has now shifted to Northwest Madhya Pradesh in the lower levels. With this change, the east-west trough has shifted slightly south of Delhi. Winds at the surface and low levels are predominantly easterly. The trough is likely to oscillate and regain its earlier position to run in close proximity tomorrow.
No significant weather activity in terms of precipitation is likely over Delhi and the surrounding region today. Once the trough comes closer tomorrow, the chance of patchy rains for a brief duration is quite likely between 08th and 10th May 2025. Thereafter, the cyclonic circulation is expected to shift to the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This move will increase the expanse and scale of weather activity between the 11th and 13th May.
The mercury levels will remain suppressed for the next 4-5 days. The day's maximum and minimum will stay around 35°C and 25°C, respectively, with a margin of +/- 1°C. Broad clearance in the weather activity is expected from 14th May onwards. The temperatures will rise once again, and the typical pre-monsoon heat will build up around the 3rd week of the month and later.
