Monsoon Forecast for Jun 15, 2017: No relief in flood hit Assam, Mizoram; Monsoon to progress ahead

Southwest Monsoon remained vigorous over Assam and Meghalaya during the last 24 hours, triggering massive floods over Assam and Mizoram.

Monsoon was active over rest of northeastern states, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana.

Meanwhile, normal Monsoon rains were seen over Interior Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Country continued with excess Monsoon rains with seasonal rainfall being surplus by 19% on June 13.

Major contributors in the rain were Assam, Mizoram and Karnataka, wherein Guhawati received 106 mm of rain while Tezpur recorded 92 mm rainfall.

With this, during the last 24 hours country received 49% surplus rain. All thanks to exceptional heavy rainfall over northeastern states.

Presently, South Peninsula is surplus by 29% and Central India is also excess by 42 %. The only deficient is East and Northeast India at -8%.

Now, the Monsoon has further advanced into South Chhattisgarh and some more parts of Odisha.

The northern limit of Monsoon is now passing through Valsad, Nashik, Parbhani, Adilabad, Jagdalpur, Bhawanipatna, Digha, Kolkata, Krishnanagar and Darjeeling.

Further during the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy Monsoon rains are expected to continue over flood hit Assam and Mizoram, though intensity of rains would be declining gradually.

Rains will also continue over rest of northeastern states, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and at few parts over Marathwada.

Live status of Lightning and thunder

However, Monsoon is likely to remain subdued over South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.

The weather condition seems favorable for further progress of Monsoon over Marathwada and some parts in Vidarbha during the next 24 to 48 hours.
