Monsoon Forecast for June 20, 2018: Heavy Monsoon rain in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa

Southwest Monsoon has not made any advancements due to which the NLM continues to pass through Thane including Mumbai, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Amravati, Gondia, Titlagarh, Cuttack, Midnapore, Goalpara, and Baghdogra. In fact, conditions do not seem favourable for Monsoon's further advancement during the next few days as well.

In the last 24 hours, Monsoon remained vigorous over Coastal Karnataka, parts of Konkan and Goa wherein moderate to heavy rains were seen over these areas. Due to active Monsoon conditions, moderate showers were witnessed over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Meanwhile, light to moderate rains were seen over parts of Vidarbha, Telangana, and Assam which means Monsoon was normal over these areas.

Major rainfall contribution came from Agumbe with 116 mm, Karwar recorded 91 mm of rains followed by Vengurla at 60 mm, and Panjim at 56 mm.

During the last 24 hours, the countrywide rainfall was deficient by 50%. However, seasonal rain is currently normal. Central and South India remained rain surplus by 1 and 40 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, North India, East, and Northeast India are rain deficient by 5 and 22 percent, respectively.

In the next 24 hours, Monsoon will remain active with moderate to heavy rains likely over Kerala and Karnataka. Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and parts of Assam and Andaman and Nicobar Islands will observe light to moderate Monsoon rains due to which Monsoon will remain normal.

Meanwhile, Monsoon will remain subdued over Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, remaining northeastern states and Gangetic West Bengal. Thus, rains will remain on the backseat.
