Northern hills of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will continue with clear weather on Sunday as well. Thereafter, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to start affecting the region by May 2. While, plains of Northwest India including Delhi will witness further marginal rise in day temperatures due to clear weather and bright sunshine. Maximum temperatures across the region including Delhi are likely to settle above 40°C.

Moving on to Northeast India, the cyclonic circulation is now over Assam and adjoining Arunachal Pradesh. With this, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers will continue over the entire region. A trough can be seen running sub-Himalayan West Bengal up to Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Accordingly we can expect isolated light rain over Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Down south, wind discontinuity can be seen from East Madhya Pradesh up to North Coastal Karnataka region across Marathwada. This is likely to give isolated light rain and thundershowers over Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala on Sunday.

All these rain activities will bring slight relief from the heatwave conditions, particularly over Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Though East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Telangana and Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra will continue with above normal temperatures. However, temperatures across the country will still settle above 40°C. However, no respite from heatwave is likely over Rajasthan and Kerala where day maximum will continue to rise. We can expect significant relief only by May 3 as pre-Monsoon showers are expected to increase.
