Poor air quality impacts our health, particularly when the air is severely polluted in the area where we live. The concentration of pollution in the air is measured by the Air Quality Index (AQI) and whenever it rises above normal limits, you and your loved ones need to take preventative measures. Here are five helpful tips that'll keep you safe when your city's AQI is low.

1. Regularly monitor the AQI levels

The initial and most basic step to being safe is to be informed. Check the AQI values regularly using reliable applications or websites. If the AQI has been categorized as "Unhealthy" or "Hazardous," stay indoors and plan your day accordingly.

2. Must wear an efficient mask outdoors

We strongly advise using an N95 or N99 mask to protect your lungs if you must go outdoors. These masks are created specifically to efficiently filter out tiny particulate matter (PM2.5). While it cannot provide the utmost filtration, it is better to not step out without a mask since it gives you protection against hazardous pollutants in comparison with cotton or surgical masks.

3. Enhance the Quality of Indoor Air

Establish a safe interior environment when air from outdoors is contaminated. To keep pollutants out, keep doors and windows closed. A high-quality air purifier is also advised for your house, paying close attention to the living areas and bedrooms. In addition, certain houseplants, such as peace lilies and spider plants, have a natural capacity to filter indoor air.

4. Drink plenty of water and eat sensibly

Drinking lots of water throughout the day allows your body to get rid of the pollutants in a natural manner. To minimize the effects of air pollution, include foods that contain antioxidants, such as vegetables, fruits and nuts. Your immunity is boosted by a balanced diet, which reduces the likelihood of respiratory illnesses.

5. Avoid outdoors in Peak pollution hours

Air pollution is typically most severe in the early morning and late hours of the night. Plan any outdoor errands for the mid-morning or early afternoon, when pollution is lesser in comparison. Try to avoid crowded areas such as traffic jams where the air quality is negatively affected by the emissions of automobiles.

Despite the fact that air pollution, as an issue, is growing more widespread, you may lessen its detrimental impact on your and your family's health by following these tips and taking additional precautions. Keep in mind that you are responsible for your own health, so take care of yourself and breathe deeply!
