March 1, 2022 2:13 PM |

The month of January has witnessed exceptionally heavy rain and thundershower activities over the Northern Plains, breaking many records. Rain activities had reduced in the month of February, but patchy rains occurred on couple of occasions. Pre monsoon season starts on March 1st.

The first spell of rain and thunderstorm may commence over Northwest India including parts of Punjab, Haryana, West and Northwest Rajasthan, Delhi and at isolated pockets of Northwest Uttar Pradesh on March 2nd.

Isolated rain may continue over northern parts of Punjab, Haryana and Northwest Uttar Pradesh on March 3rd as well. These weather activities will be in the wake of induced Cyclonic Circulation which is expected to form over Northwest Rajasthan.

Minimums over many parts of Northwest India have dropped to single digits. Due to the change in wind direction and cloud cover of minimums may once again creep up and will be in double digits. These rain activities will be light and Patchy. Strong winds and hailstorm activities are ruled out, therefore, the chances of damage to crops are also ruled out.

Typical Pre-Monsoon activities will commence by the third week of March when temperatures will be in the higher thirties. Due to the instability in the atmosphere and high temperatures, dust storm and thunderstorm activities are expected after Holi.
