Bangalore rains inching towards monthly mean target

Southwest Monsoon seems to be active over interiors of Karnataka as of now. The cloudy skies in Bangalore finally began pouring from late Monday evening onward. It rained in the city all through the night. Bangalore recorded 33 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, ending at 8.30 today morning.

The spell of rain witnessed last night is the heaviest so far in Bangalore. The normal rainfall for the month of July in Bangalore is 109 mm, while city has received only 92.7 mm as of now.

Seems like, the city is taking baby steps towards the monthly normal. Skymet Weather predicts some more rains for Bangalore in the coming days. Therefore, by the end of the month Bangalore will possibly achieve the monthly mean target of 109 mm.

Bangalore had performed extremely well in terms of Monsoon rains in the month of June. The total rainfall recorded in the city was about 192 mm. Thereafter, Bangalore rains took a backseat. July began on a poor note and the first spell of double digit rainfall was observed on July 16.

Bangalore lies in South Interior Karnataka and this part of the state has received 2% less rains than normal so far this Monsoon season. However, North Interior Karnataka has received 22% surplus rains.
