The state of Tamil Nadu, as well as coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, have seen some good rains in the past 24 hours with double-digit rains in many coastal regions.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Nungambakkam in Chennai recorded 22 mm of rains, Nellore 27 mm, Karaikal 24 mm, Puducherry 8 mm, Chennai 6 mm, Ongole 3 mm.
Today, light rainfall activity can be seen over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu. By tomorrow, the weather will start to improve with only a few pockets likely to receive some rains, thereafter, around January 19, the situation is expected to improve and rains will take a backseat.
These rains are attributed to the convergence of winds, i.e. winds blowing from the north from the Anti Cyclone merging with the easterlies from the Bay of Bengal.
