Cold Conditions in Allahabad improve on Mauni Amawasya

The 44-day-long Magh Mela which began amidst the thick of winters in Allahabad has now reached the 2nd major event of the festival. On the auspicious day of Mauni Amawasya, the weather conditions have improved significantly as compared to the first day of the festival when the mornings were foggy, the days were extremely cold and the nights were chilly. Now, the fog has disappeared, days have become less cold and the night temperatures have also risen.

Thousands took a holy dip in the Sangam on the auspicious day of Mauni Amawasya. On this day, Hindu devotees join Kalpavasis at the annual Magh Mela and meditate the entire day. This day is the day of spiritual Sadhana where one makes an attempt to calm the restless mind. The Mauni Amawasya started yesterday at 9 pm and will come to an end after 9 pm, today.

Cold conditions in Allahabad have significantly improved since the last few days. The day temperature on January 15 was 12.6°C, 13°C on January 16, 14°C on January 17 and 17°C on January 18. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the city will experience a further rise in day temperatures, while nights will be less chilly.

On February 3, a full moon night, the minimum temperature is expected to record above normal. The day time will also be pleasant and warm. By the end of the Magh Mela i.e. February 17, the cold spell will hopefully come to an end.
