The deep depression in the Bay of Bengal continued to move in a west northwestward direction almost at the speed varying between 10 and 15 km per hour. The system is centered about 650 km southeast of Chennai and will continue moving west northwestward.

The system has become a Cyclonic storm named Mandous. Cyclone Mandous may see an increase in the intensity for the next about 12 hours in terms of increase in the wind speed. It may remain a Cyclonic Storm, and has an outside chance of becoming severe for a very short while.

After 12 hours, because of the sea travel and the dip in sea temperatures, it may weaken. However, until today evening, the storm will continue to retain its intensity.

Rainfall activities are expected over the state of Tamil Nadu starting tomorrow. Other parts of South India including kerala, Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka along with Puducherry and Karaikal will continue to see heavy rains for the next 3-4 days.
