Cyclone Roanu gives rain in Kolkata, heavy showers in offing

After triggering torrential rains over Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, Cyclone Roanu has now started affecting weather over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata.

The capital city has been witnessing rain and thundershowers since Thursday morning. It has already recorded 10 mm of rain between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm.

At present also, Kolkata is observing rains. We expect sky to remain overcast and these showers may continue throughout the day.

According to Skymet Weather, Cyclone Roanu is moving ahead at the speed of 15 kmph and is presently about 85 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam.

Though at present, the system is little far away from West Bengal but the peripherals of the storm are covering large parts from Interiors of Odisha to Gangetic West Bengal.

The intensity and spread of rain are likely to increase significantly as the cyclone Roanu gains more strength and shifts closer to West Bengal coast.

In wake of this weather activity, day temperatures have also witnessed a drop and was around 29°C at 2:30 pm. Further, we can expect comfortable weather conditions over Kolkata in a day while evenings and mornings will be fairly pleasant.

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, the cyclonic storm is likely to make landfall over Bangladesh while skirting Indian East Coast.

The system has already given heavy to extremely heavy rains over Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
