Cyclone Shaheen kills 9, system weakens now

October 4, 2021 5:52 PM |

Cyclone Shaheen has now weakened into a deep depression and is presently over North Oman and adjoining United Arab Emirates. The system has killed at least nine people across both Iran and Oman resulting in a lot of damage over these areas.

Flight cancellations and delays were observed over these areas. Muscat witnessed knee deep waters with streets being deserted. Roads, infrastructure and electricity have taken a hit to quite an extent.

The Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf, from the sight and the severity of the storm, both the water bodies are not that wide. The storm was slated to cause damage on either side of the coastlines with the respect to Iran on one side, and Pakistan on one side but that did not happen.

However, when the storm reached Oman and further to Iran, it struck at a speed of 100-120 kmph causing a lot of damage. In the next 24 hours, the system will weaken further and not cause enough damage when it travels inside Oman as a low pressure area.
