Daughters of farmers in the Puntamba village of Maharashtra state were recently seen coming up in support of their fathers and other cultivators demanding a waiver for their loans. They have collectively launched an agitation today demanding farm loan waiver and other relief measures such as a fair remunerative price for their produce.

Two years back as well, the same village in Ahmednagar district saw a similar agitation which later took to other districts as well. This agitation was the reason behind Devendra Fadanvis and Maharashtra Government announcing a farm loan waiver of Rs. 34,000 crores in summers, 2017.

A sit-in protest has been started in the village by a group of daughters under the banner of Kisan Kranti Morcha. Their agitation is being led by Nikita Jadhav, daughter of Kisan Kranti Morcha's state convener Dhananjay Jadhav.

Their key demands are complete farm loan waiver, hike in milk procurement price (to Rs. 50 per liter) and a basic minimum remunerative price for their produce.

Last to last year’s demands saw themselves concluding; this certainly increases hopes in the ones protesting, this time as well. Rest, the time will tell if where their demands will lead them to.
