The much-awaited spell of pre-Monsoon rains over the northwestern plains is finally here to drench the region.

“This will be a prolonged spell of rains across the plains, which is likely to continue till May 1,” said Mahesh Palawat, Chief Meteorologist, Skymet Weather.

At present, a Western Disturbance has been moving across Jammu and Kashmir that has induced a cyclonic circulation over Haryana and West Rajasthan. With this, we can expect pre-Monsoon activities such as intense rains, thundershowers or thunderstorm across West Rajasthan, Punjab, and  Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Lucknow too could see some thunder storm activity on Sunday.

Dust storm along with lightning strikes may also occur over some places.

Another fresh Western Disturbance will start affect Jammu and Kashmir by Sunday, due to which the cyclonic circulation would get more marked. As both the system will move eastwards, intensity of rains of the northwestern plains will also increase by Sunday into Monday.

Weathermen predict that all these showers will usually occur during the latter part of the day or in night hours, which is the true characteristic of pre-Monsoon activity.

This approaching spell will also arrest the day temperatures, which would now settle in the comfortable range for the next few days. Weather is likely to pleasant over several places during the weekend.
