Delhi Winters

The base observatory Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 10°C on 03rd November, which is the earliest at least since 1999 or even beyond. The minimum temperature for Delhi has been dropping for the last 3 consecutive days from 11.4° to 10.8° and today morning being 10°C. The minimum temperature in the last week had the steepest fall from 15°C to 10°C. This temperature has been below normal for more than a week with the sharpest decline today to go 5°C below the threshold.

The minimum temperature for Delhi in November generally start with 15°C or above and drop to 10-11°C during last week. There are few years like 2004, 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2019 when the lowest minimum temperature in November stayed above 10°C. There is another group of years when the temperature reached 10°C only on 25th November or even later like 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2016. Invariably the minimum temperature in the first week was recorded between 14-16°C.

Delhi Temperatures

With persistent northwesterly winds blowing in the plains of Punjab, Haryana and reaching Delhi/NCR, the temperature is likely to hang around 10-11°C, below normal by about 5°C. There has been some snowfall in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir and Ladakh. Also, the winds are going to become strong of the order of 15kmh or more. These two parameters are going to increase the chill factor. The first week of November 2020 will possibly go on record to become the coolest in a few decades for Delhi.
