Delhi heatwave

The national capital of Delhi is heading for hot days ahead and is likely to scale 36°C soon, the highest of this season so far. A brief spell of thunderstorm possibly on March 17th night and March 18th will not subject to any change in the day temperature. However, following this spell, the mercury is poised to rise beyond 35°C over Delhi and may touch 36°C on 21-22 March and drop thereafter. A decent spell of a thundershower, quite likely accompanied with a hailstorm is expected to lash Delhi on 22nd and 23rd March. The day temperature in Delhi may take a dip to plummet in the low 30’s for a couple of days.

An active western disturbance with a support circulation will spread the weather activity across most parts of North India between 21st and 23rd March. Delhi falls in its ambit, albeit the outer one but good enough to witness pre-monsoon touch of transiting phase. Delhi had already received 13mm of rainfall during the earlier spell will surpass its monthly normal of 15.9mm.

Change in the wind pattern will be visible from 20th March itself with warm and humid winds sweeping the area. Cloud cover on the following days will raise the minimum temperature in Delhi to about 20°C and lower the maximum to hang around 30°C. Peak weather activity in Delhi is expected on 22nd March and the remnant effect may linger even up to 24th March. Mercury had earlier touched 35.2°C in 11th March and another occasion on 04th March when it stayed 7°C above the normal at 33.9°C. The first fortnight has consistently remained above the normal in Delhi and a pause is likely during the second one.
