Delhi Records Warmest Day Of Year: Better Weekend Ahead
Mar 26, 2025, 12:45 PM | Skymet Weather TeamAs predicted and on the expected lines, Delhi registered the highest temperature of this year, so far, yesterday. The base station at Safdarjung recorded a day maximum of 37.1°C, about 6°C above the normal. The airport observatory was a degree lower at 36.2°C, again, the highest so far. The meteorological office at Lodhi Road was higher by a whisker at 37.2°C and 7°C above the average. Ridge and Pitampura were among the highest recorded day highs of 38.7°C and 38.9°C, respectively. These are precursors to the impending pre-monsoon heat likely to catch up in the month of April.
Delhi had earlier recorded the highest temperature of this year at 36.2°C on 14th Mar 2025. High temperature is likely to be sustained for another 24 hours and drop thereafter. Notwithstanding the warmer temperatures for the last few days, the mercury has remained below normal or close to normal during the night. The average minimum temperature for Delhi, so far, has been about 15°C, against the monthly average of 15.6°C. The minimum temperature is likely to hover around 16°-17°C in the remaining days of the month.
A western disturbance is moving across the mountains of North India. There has been light rainfall in the hills at places like Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Kupwara and light snowfall in the higher reaches. The weather activity will continue for the next two days and recede on the 3rd day. Broad clearance is expected from 29th March onward. Generally, warm air sweeps into the forward section of the western disturbance and therefore, the temperature is expected to rise further today. It may set a new high for the month, in excess of yesterday's maximum. The maximum temperature has an outside chance to breach the 40°C mark for the first time in this month. The light winds may help build the heat. The day temperature may hover around 39°-40°C today. A significant drop is imminent tomorrow onward, following cold air in the rear section of the western disturbance. The temperature is likely to remain below 35°C between 28th and 30th March 2025.
