A Low Pressure Area had formed in the Northeast Arabian Sea, very close to where Cyclone Hikaa was. The system became a well marked low pressure, just the next day and was seen intensifying into a Depression on Sunday.
The system continued to retain its intensity as a Depression, and is centred closer to Surendranagar, likely to maintain its intensity as of today. The system is expected to move east-northeastwards towards Madhya Pradesh region and weaken sometime tomorrow into a well-marked Low Pressure Area.
Rains in Gujarat have been spoiling the beginning of the Navratri festival and moderate to heavy rains are likely to continue over the state of Gujarat today wherein the Gujarat region including Patan, Mahesana, Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, Kheda, Banaskantha, Ahmedabad, Deesa and Rajkot will see more rains and showers will reduce over Saurashtra and Kutch over Jamnagar, Porbandar, Okha, Naliya.
By tomorrow, rains will reduce over Gujarat and the focus of rains will move further east and shift to Madhya Pradesh region from Gujarat wherein cities of Neemach, Ratlam, Agarmalwa, Ujjain, Dhar, Indore, Shajapur and Guna may see heavy rains. In fact, Rajasthan will begin to see some rains in a few parts inclusive of Jalore, Udaipur, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, Sirohi, Dungarpur, Banswada, Rajsamand.
Meanwhile, Kota, Jhalawar, Bundi, Jhalawar, Baran, Sawai Madhopur, Bhilwara may see heavy rains.
On the other hand, Gujarat region will see light rains for the next three to four days. Once the withdrawal commences, Gujarat will also fall in line quickly.
The state of Gujarat, at the moment is the most surplus pocket in the country, from being a deficient pocket until July.
Moreover, Saurashtra and Kutch until the end of July was 33 percent deficient while Gujarat was 21 percent rain deficit. August saw some good rains and at the end of August, both the regions became surplus by 16 percent each.
As of today, Saurashtra and Kutch are rain surplus by 55 percent and Gujarat is 28 percent. Covering so much deficiency from June to surplus at the end of September, is a history on its own. Moreover, during the last breathing days of September, it is rare to see depression in Arabian Sea during this time of the year.
