February 2025 will figure among the warmer and drier months on record for Delhi. Otherwise, February is supposed to be the rainiest winter month with an average monthly rainfall of 21.5 mm. The capital city has recorded only 1.4 mm of rainfall so far. Though the month may end on a rainy note, it is unlikely to catch up. It is not expected to be anywhere close to normal. The temperatures too, have remained on the higher side during the month, so far. The remaining days will follow the same track and the mercury is likely to stay about 3°C above the normal on a daily basis.

The month of February has remained dry in the past also. It is no big aberration, as such. In the last 10 years, the base station Safdarjung recorded zero rainfall in 2017, 2018 and 2023. But then occasionally, the month was drenched with very heavy rains, as it happened in 2013. The city amassed a total of 103.1 mm of rainfall in the month. The highest ever, further, dates back to Feb 1915, when the city had a deluge of 153.4 mm rainfall.

The capital city had earlier received rainfall in the wee hours of yesterday. The weather system has cleared the region now. In the wake of the system, with slightly cooler winds, the minimum temperature dropped by about 3°C. The base observatory recorded a minimum of 12.3°C, very close to normal. The morning temperature may dip further to about 10°-11°C for the next three days, before they rise again during the last days of the month.

The day temperatures have mostly remained above the normal so far. The mean maximum temperature, between 01st and 21st Feb, is expected to be around 26°C, about 2°C more than the normal. In the remaining days of the month, the maximum temperature will be on the higher side of normal and hang around 28°C. A fresh western disturbance is likely to arrive over the mountains on 25th Feb 2025. Delhi will come under its influence on the last two days of the month, 27th & 28th Feb. A partly cloudy sky, accompanied with light intermittent rains, may change the mercury levels yet again for the last time in this month.
