Earthquake jolts Afghanistan, mild tremors felt in Delhi

Tremors have been felt in Delhi and its adjoining regions, parts of Kashmir Valley inclusive of Srinagar and North Pakistan today evening around 1734 IST hours. The powerful earthquake measuring 5.7 magnitude on the Richter scale hit the Afghanistan-Pakistan border; the Hindukush region.

Meanwhile, tremors were also felt in parts of Haryana, Punjab, Lahore, Multan and Islamabad and in Upper Dir, Nowshera, Swat and neighboring areas of Pakistan.

According to the reports, the earthquake tremors were earlier felt in Karachi. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 2.9 on the Richter scale and its epicentre is believed to be 15 kilometres north of Karachi.

Till now, no casualties or damages to property have been reported. More details are still awaited. Rather it is safe to say that this earthquake is expected to have a low humanitarian impact.

This massive earthquake hit the Hindukush region just a day after the Palghar district in Maharashtra was hit by five consecutive quakes in a span of 24 hours.

This particular region has been experiencing such tremors on almost regular basis since November 2018.
