The state of Gujarat experiences minimal pre-monsoon weather activity. Thunderstorms and dust storms are few and far between during April-May. The state remains at a safe distance from weather systems in North India and also beyond the reach of disturbances in South India. Extremely hot weather with frequent heat waves remains the hallmark of the pre-monsoon. There is a deviation likely from the conventional pattern, and pre-monsoon activity akin to the northern plains will happen over many parts of the state.
Well-marked cyclonic circulation is likely over South and Central Rajasthan in the lower and medium levels between 05th and 07th May 2025. This feature will draw southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea with embedded convection over North and Central Gujarat on these days. Scattered rain and thundershowers are expected over these parts during this period. Another cyclonic circulation with a southward extension of a trough will come up over North Gujarat on 07th and 08th May 2025.
A heavy thunderstorm is likely at some places over North Gujarat on 06th May. The spread of weather activity will increase on 07 and 08 May to cover most interior parts of Gujarat and Saurashtra and isolated places in Kutch. Overall, pre-monsoon activity is expected to last between 06th and 09th May 2025. Remnant effect with light activity at most places and moderate at very few stations is likely on 10th May. Weather conditions will improve over many parts of the state outside Central and North Gujarat on 11th May, where light rainfall may continue. A broad clearance in the weather activity is likely from 12th May onwards and will stay good till the third week of the month and may get extended till the month's end. Heat wave will remain in abeyance for the next 10 days in the entire state.
