First Spell Of Widespread Winter Rains Over North India, Fair Weather Follows Soon

First spell of typical winter rains lashed plains of North India covering states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Spread of rains was more intense over East Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. Hailstorm hammered many places of Rajasthan covering Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banaswara, Chittorgarh, Jaipur and Ajmer districts.  Some of the unreported districts so far also are believed to have witnessed similar activity. 

Chief amounts of rainfall include Ajmer-44mm, Sikar-44mm, Jaipur-25mm, Tonk-15mm, Udaipur-15mm Narnaul-25mm, Meerut-14mm, Jalandhar-14mm and Delhi 20mm. Most other places observed light to moderate showers.

Western disturbance is still moving across the mountainous states and will actively last for the next 24hr. The induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan, responsible for most of the weather activity in the plains has weakened and also moved eastward. It is likely to get filled up over West Uttar Pradesh in the next 24hr.  Improved weather conditions are expected, commencing tomorrow and stay so, for the week and even beyond.  Today, the northern parts of Punjab and Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh along with foothills may observe scattered rain and thundershowers.

In the wake of the weather system, shallow to moderate fog is expected at many places tomorrow and day after.  Minimum temperatures are likely to plunge, to go to single digit across the region. Few places like Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Gurdaspur may touch 5 degree mark on 01st Feb and later. However, twist in the weather conditions will turn the days to become pleasant with fair amount of sunshine during forenoon and afternoon. Fair weather conditions are expected to prevail during 1st week of February.
