Delhi and the NCR region has seen some good rainfall activities during the weekend resulting in relief from sultry weather and temperatures settling about 4-5 degrees below the normal levels.

The Safdrajung observatory so far has recorded 50 mm of rains while its normal rains for September stands at 128 mm.

The main driver for Delhi rains is the Monsoon trough which keeps oscillating. Earlier, the trough was far to the north and did not give rain. However, a Low Pressure Area formed in the Bay of Bengal, and its Cyclonic Circulation moved over Madhya Pradesh. With this, the Monsoon trough is now south of Delhi.

The trough will remain a little south of its normal position today. After that, the circulation will move away from Delhi, the Monsoon trough may move a little northward for 2-3 days.

Today rains may be seen, however, after that, until September 15, chances of good rains are very less and only patchy isolated showers are expected.

But then again around September 16-17th, we can expect a wet weekend for the national capital and its adjoining areas. Temperatures may not rise appreciably and will remain close to normal levels. In fact, Monsoon withdrawal will come closer after the next spell.
